Instagram introduces 'face filters,' another Snapchat-like feature

Instagram

Facebook's Instagram service is launching face filters in an effort to keep up with rival, Snap Inc.'s Snapchat. You can access them by downloading the new 10.21 update on the App Store or Google Play Store. This is basically Instagram's way of saying, "We're coming for you, Snapchat!".

To start trying out the new Instagram face filters, users just need to open the camera and, in the bottom right corner, tap the new face icon to select any filter they want to try on. There are eight filters to choose from.

Social media giant Instagram has introduced "face filters" in its camera.

Facebook, which in recent months has copied many of Snapchat's features, is back at it again. Also, Facebook now has a platform for developers to build augmented reality experiences for its camera, compared with Snapchat's more closed ecosystem.

More recently, Facebook added "Stories" to its flagship app.

Now, one can simply say that Instagram's transition process from being a photo-sharing app to a mixture of a whole lot of things is finally complete.

Snap was trading at $20.42 Tuesday, down from an all-time high of $29.44. Here are the eight different face filters you can now add to your Instagram stories. To use it, you'll find "Rewind" next to "Boomerang" and "Hands-Free" in the camera tool. Users will just have to press and hold the shutter button to take a video.

Or for those of you who would rather associate yourself as an ice princess, because #IHatePeople, this filter lets you do so! In the Stories feature, users can add a hashtag sticker to add more content to a story. And after you're finished taking a photo or video, you can apply filters and stickers as you normally would. Then, using the eraser brush, they can show parts of the photo or video underneath.
