'King Arthur' flops, 'Guardians 2' still rules at box office

Charlie Hunnam

A SPECIAL preview screening of the highly anticipated epic film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is being held in Bangor on Sunday.

Following Friday night's box office win, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has raked in an estimated $199.6 million domestically for Disney/Marvel.

I could go on about how I cared about Arthur's crew way more than I ever expected to, or how their big chase scene, where they all slide around nearly in unison, is one of the better chases I've seen in forever, but like, if you think this movie looks bad, watching it is certainly not going to dissuade you. Headed into the weekend industry estimates were for an opening in the mid-teens and our basement projection was $18 million, which Snatched could still hit if it sees a little more support over Mother's Day than now projected. Snatched stars Goldie Hawn in her first movie in 15 years as the ultra-cautious mother of the adventurous Schumer as they head off on a vacation together to what is supposed to be paradise. However, when fate led him to pull the Excalibur sword from stone, Arthur embraces his true destiny to become a legendary fighter and leader. This current decade now brings King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and it's the feeblest interpretation yet. Other actors in the film include Eric Bana, Aidan Gillen and Djimon Hounsou. In China, it opened to a $1.8 million to the No. 3 spot. Males made up almost 60 percent of the audience. The film received a "B+" CinemaScore from opening day audiences of which 59% were male vs. 41% female and of the overall audience, 56% were under the age of 35.

"King Arthur is guilty of many blockbuster sins critics have taken it upon themselves to call out over the last decade". Full weekend numbers weren't immediately available.

Fox's "The Boss Baby" continues to overperform, rounding out the Top 5 with a further $965,000 from 2,911 theaters.

Speaking about working with the acclaimed director, he said: "It was quite a steep learning curve for me because Guy is absolutely sensational at working in real time but he is equally bad at doing any sort of preparation".
