Fox News co-president Bill Shine is out

Bill Shine leaves a New York restaurant with Rupert Murdoch last week. His exit is the latest in a series

He was promoted to lead Fox News alongside Abernethy in the wake of Ailes' departure, at the behest of Murdoch, who built the sprawling Fox entertainment empire and is the news channel's executive chairman.

Jack Abernethy remains as co-president of Fox News and CEO of Fox Television Stations.

Shine signed on at Fox in 1996 and worked as Sean Hannity's producer before rising to the top position.

Jay Wallace, Executive Vice President of News becomes President, News of FOX News Channel.

"Sadly, Bill Shine resigned today", Murdoch wrote.

DAVID FOLKENFLIK, BYLINE: Bill Shine was a Roger Ailes loyalist all the way, helping him take the conservative news and opinion channel further to the right in the age of the Obama White House, as Shine once explained to me back in 2009. "We will miss him".

Suzanne Scott, now an executive vice president, will take on some of Shine's duties with a new title, president of programming, overseeing opinion shows like "The Five" and "Hannity". In addition to Shine's exit, Murdoch communicated that Suzanne Scott will now step up as head of programming. Following this, Fox News started "Hannity" with the popular host.

With the departure of former Fox prime-time anchors Megyn Kelly, Greta Van Susteren and O'Reilly, Hannity is arguably the most powerful person at the news organization. Both shows have since ended. Hannity warned last week that Shine's departure from Fox News would spell the "total end" of the network "as we know it".

Shine's resignation comes after reports that Fox News paid out $13 million to settle sexual harassment claims brought against its former host Bill O'Reilly from five women.

Shine will be replaced by Suzanne Scott, who Sherman reports has a history of enforcing "Ailes's dictums, including his mini-skirt dress code for on-air women".

Shine has been implicated in the harassment scandal, and an unrelated racial discrimination action, via several lawsuits filed by Fox employees.

The owner of the network, Rupert Murdoch, and his sons who have taken over the business have fired Shine, with possibly more changes to come.

Ailes and O'Reilly have denied the harassment allegations made against them. He has repeatedly disclaimed any knowledge of Ailes's allegedly unethical or illegal behavior.

He got an unusually public endorsement on Thursday from Hannity, now Fox's biggest star.

With Shine gone, it's plausible that Hannity will soon follow.
