How Charlie Hunnam talked his way into being King Arthur

Below, watch the King Arthur: Legend of the Sword featurette on Vortigern (Jude Law).

It's supposed to be a "modern" take on the legend, with actors like Charlie Hunnam as Arthur and Jude Law as his villainous uncle Vortigern hardly even pretending to not resemble 21st-century people playing dress up.

Hey Vortigen, dont you know holding your sword like that will boring the tip of the blade? We see the future King Arthur as a boy who witnesses tragedy and grows up swiftly.

But he goes too far.

"There is a scene where he tries to pull out his sword and I get out there, he's got a spiky bit and he got a bit overly rambunctious with it and stabbed me in my six-pack but thankfully my six-pack was so strong I think his sword bent and I only got a little cut". Hunnam has what it takes to become a major movie star and I think this movie proves it, but nearly no one else agrees with me.

King Arthur star Charlie Hunnam has said he would like to include Madonna, the ex-wife of the film's director Guy Ritchie, among his own Knights of the Round Table.

Other notable turns come from Djimon Hounsou as Bedivere, Eric Bana as Uther and Aidan Gillen as Bill whilst Annabelle Wallis plays Maggie. I found myself smiling for much of the movie because I was so into the odd visuals and interesting characters on the screen, not to mention the insane action sequences. Although there is this wizard bird named Mage (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey), who looks more like a Marion to me. "And I said, 'That is just unacceptable, my friend'".

King Arthur is unaware of his power until he grabs the sword, Excalibur. There's lots of intense screaming, slow-motion cut-ins of swords swinging and blood splattering, headache-inducing facial close-ups with the camera attached to sprinting characters and hollow special effects that nearly single-handedly set back every bit of progress that's been made in CGI over these past years. And why does Hollywood keep making King Arthur movies - the last major one was Antoine Fuqua's 2004 bomb - when audiences clearly aren't clamoring for them?
