Teen 'owns up to' tossing 68-year-old woman in Florida pool

Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media

Jones can be seen on the video asking about 200 partygoers to keep it down after she entered the pool area with her two small dogs.

One, egged on by the crowd, picks her up. Both dogs managed to escape being thrown in. "No matter what, they're going to have parties ..."

The video then shows the male getting up, picking up James again and throwing her into the pool while she held the leash of her dogs.

Her friend Shay McNair said: "She doesn't walk that good, you can see that". She said authorities had been called for the loud noise but hadn't arrived by the time the victim confronted the group.

"People need to learn from this and pay attention to what they do and pay attention to their actions before they do them", she said.

The woman, a 68-year-old who is a board member of the Players Place Homeowners Association, suffered injuries to her leg and shoulder, the sheriff's office said.

WPLG reported that the teen turned himself in to police Monday evening.

"When I went in there I wasn't anxious about anything, but I guess I walked in to a group of people that just hadn't evolved yet, but that's all I can say and they just have to learn to grow up and join society the way that they should", James said.

The teen is charged with battery on a person 65 or older.

The website reports that she is now in stable condition and that police are investigating the incident.

Deputies and paramedics responded to the scene around 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Residents of the Florida apartment complex told local media that they were shocked by the incident, which was uncalled for.

"First of all, I can't even believe that somebody would be allowed to act like that", Tracy Ann Simmonds said. "These young people are a little bit out of control".

He is expected back in court on June 5.
