BC Election 'too close to call'

While at the start of the campaign, only 52% of BC Green Party voters were committed to their choice, the proportion has increased to 77%, greatly improving the party's chances of having its best showing ever in a provincial election.

"It's a healthy democracy when you have people who protest and have their voices heard, and you've got to expect that if you're going to get into the democratic process and into politics", said Stephen Roberts, BC Liberal candidate for Saanich North and the Islands.

The NDP sent the most negative news releases - in which the focus was the other party's shortcomings - on May 5, attacking Clark for being too close to deep-pocketed corporate donors, while ordinary British Columbians struggle to afford the cost of living.

Which party might be winning the race at this point is anyone's guess.

Similarly to the Ipsos poll, Mainstreet/ Postmedia found just one percentage point separating the two major parties, with the B.C. NDP edging ahead with 35% support compared to the Liberals with 34%.

The B.C. Greens are up three percent from the last Global News Ipsos poll, whereas the B.C. Liberals are down four percent and the B.C. NDP is off by a single percentage point.

"We know people got it wrong in B.C.in 2013".

NDP Leader John Horgan tweeted that he was less anxious about his bus and more concerned about British Columbians getting stuck with four more years of Liberal Leader Christy Clark. With more than four-in-ten voters choosing to abstain in the past few BC elections, this can have a substantial impact on the results.

In order to vote Tuesday, residents must prove their identity and home address, by showing a driver's licence, B.C. Identification Card, B.C. Services Card (with photo), or a Certificate of Indian Status. Supporters of the two main opposition parties place their emphasis on ideas and policies (36% among NDP voters, 39% among Green voters), desire for change (33% among NDP voters, 25% among Green voters) and disgust with other contending candidates (14% among NDP voters, 23% among Green voters).
