Mario Kart 8 Deluxe races to top of the sales charts
The reports are in: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now selling faster than any other Mario Kart game in the franchise's 25-year history, clocking in with a whopping 459,000 copies sold on launch day in the United States by itself.
Nintendo added in its press release that 45% of Switch owners purchased the title, which would indicate it's the second most important game for the console behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I'm here to remind you of all the good things we got out of the Wii U, starting with one major change.
But arguably, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe shines most when played with friends in split-screen mode. Furthermore, the rumors also suggest that the Mario + Rabbids will release in August or September 2017 on Nintendo Switch.
Retailers all over the world offer little preorder gifts for certain video game releases. Most importantly, if a TV was unavailable, the player could turn on the Wii U and play it via the Gamepad.
With the E3 being so close, it wouldn't be surprising if the game is one of the big Switch titles which have been teased recently by president Kimishima.
There's a tweet going around that highlights the inherent weirdness of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's a computer-assisted way of keeping you on the track no matter how bad you may be at turning, which for most Mario Kart rookies is probably the hardest part of the game to get used to. Nintendo has reported it reached a total of 2.74 million sales from March 3 (Switch's launch) through March 31 when its 2016 fiscal year ended.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also received more flawless review scores than any other Mario Kart game ever. You can play with up to four players on TV or tablet (and it looks just fine even on the small screen, never fear!).
Playing as a non-Mario character, who drives a non-Mario-related kart, on a non-Mario track is a totally real possibility in this Mario-branded arcade racer.
There's also the question of how Nintendo plans to charge for an online service that can't handle a single (albeit quite popular) game.
