Amazon Echo Look (Style Assistant) is Unveiled, Priced at $199

Google Home will now be able to handle multiple accounts and tell who's speaking to it offering personalised answers to some questions

Disclosure: Jeff Bezos is an investor in Business Insider through his personal investment company Bezos Expeditions. The new $199 Echo Look is the first iteration of Echo that has a camera, and the device uses it to evaluate your outfits, take outfit-of-the-day photos for you to share, and suggest which styles look best on you.

The Echo Look is now available by invitation only, which brings back memories of the first Echo speaker's launch. And, because Alexa is built in the cloud, she's always getting smarter-and so will Echo Look.

The Echo Dot speaker has an all-seeing companion now - the Echo Look.

It's important to note that Echo Look is a device entirely separate from Amazon's other Echo products, in that no other accessories to be purchased alongside it.

Then there's the Style Check feature, which offers advice on which of multiple outfits to wear based on machine learning and "advice from fashion specialists". The Look has a depth-sensing camera that blurs a photo's background, making pictures appear more professional.

For several days now, third-party apps have been unable to use Amazon's Skills Kit as expected, and thus are unable to receive voice commands via Alexa virtual assistants.

Developers trying to integrate their applications with the Amazon Echo have suffered headache after headache for the past week, thanks to mystery problems with Alexa APIs.

Echo Look's goal is niche-not everyone cares enough about their outfit to take photos each day, much less get advice from a virtual stylist.

It's also capable of shooting short videos, allowing users to give a little twirl and capture their sartorial choices from all angles.

The technology is a part of Amazon's attempt to expand its fashion retail section.

For now, the Amazon Echo Look is available on an invite-only basis. Amazon kills two birds with one stone by providing you with a smart style assistant who, just so happens to be tapped into the e-tailer's marketplace full of great-looking clothes.
