Robertson in custody after sex crime charge filed

However, Auston Robertson would not be given a third chance by Mark Dantonio as he was dismissed from the Michigan State football team on Friday.

Robertson and the woman, who said she knew Robertson, ran into each other at party in East Lansing and the incident was reported to police the following day, when the woman told officers she had been assaulted.

The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office says Robertson has not been arraigned yet. A university spokesman told the Detroit Free Press that Robertson, a sophomore who played in seven games last season, remains a student.

"The criminal sexual conduct charges announced today against Auston Robertson are of the most serious nature", Dantonio said in a statement.

The incident that led to charges against Robertson is separate from the ongoing criminal investigation into three other unnamed MSU players and a staff member who the university announced were suspended February 9. He is the fourth Michigan State football player suspended amid sexual assault allegations this year.

The third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge is a felony and punishable up to 15 years in prison. The University officially accepted his NLI in late March of 2016.

Dantonio went into detail Friday about some of the conditions put on Robertson after he arrived on campus. He had to complete a 22-week diversionary program as stipulated by the court. That alleged incident happened January 16 and the suspensions were handed out in February. All extra evidentiary materials prosecutors asked for have been turned in, and they're in the process of making a charging decision.
