Wall scores playoff-best 32 as Wizards beat Hawks in Game 1

Game 1 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series between the No. 4 Washington Wizards and the No. 5 Atlanta Hawks is in the books.

Get scoring updates and the live box score from Game 2 between the Wizards and Hawks above. Bradley Beal came alive with 16 points in the money quarter including a three-pointer with under a minute to play to all but ice the game. "When I'm not being aggressive like that and into it, I'm not a great player".

A collective disdain for the officiating galvanized an announced capacity crowd. Washington's floor general scored a postseason career-best 32 points and dished 14 assists through handsome and skillful passes.

-After complaints from Millsap about Game 1 being too physical - and around the league others upset with game officials being too passive - the first half alone had 29 fouls called.

"The difference in the game was we were playing basketball and they were playing MMA", Millsap said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Those comments didn't sit well with Markieff Morris. "If we're going to jostle the whole series, then that's what it's going to be".

"I've seen it enough and I know now just keep my mouth shut, let him take over the game", Brooks said.

"It's the playoffs, man".

The Washington Wizards finished the regular season with five losses in their last eight games so I was a little anxious about their form, but they were back to their best in Game 1 as they took down the Hawks by 114-107.

On the positive side, the Hawks got a significant boost from the bench in the first half. "Not worry about what they're saying". Thabo Sefolosha did not play, but Budenholzer said he was healthy. The Hawks attempted 38 free throws, and the Wizards shot 33. Not only did he turn Washington's season around, but he reinserted himself into the elite player discussion. He hesitated on at least three open looks in the first half. Wall is particularly adept at finding Gortat around the rim - in the fourth quarter, the two connected for two more buckets around the basket. He has thrived under head coach Scott Brooks' teachings and has finally tapped into his star potential.

"That is also part of the reason why we've been good this year". We have to continue to play no matter what happens.

"We're still salty about it", Beal said. "This is a game that you have to do that".

"I just want to reiterate that it's a long series", Millsap said.

-The Wizards ran plays immediately for Porter out of halftime but his foul trouble prevented him for doing much. The Wizards were in the penalty just 3:15 in the third quarter and Morris, Porter, and Oubre all picked up their fourth personal fouls during that time frame.

Washington had a chance to clinch the franchise's first 50-win season since 1978-79 but instead chose to rest players down the stretch in order to ensure its best players would be healthy and ready to square off against a familiar foe.

After losing their starting front court, the team lost its lead.

Millsap took issue with the way Morris and the Wizards tried to overpower him in the Hawks' 114-107 loss. The Wizards have now won four straight meetings with the Hawks, covering the spread in three of those four victories.

Jason Smith worked all around the court, recording an assist, a block and a steal in the opening moments.

"Setting the tone", Morris said after the game.
