Michigan State Basketball: Bridges cancels agent meetings, could return for sophomore season

Miles Bridges has made a decision to stay at Michigan State for his sophomore season, putting his National Basketball Association dreams on hold.

He went to The Spartan statue in the center of campus tonight to say he was staying there. Only one member of the second team (Gonzaga's Nigel Williams-Goss) is still on the fence about his decision, and only one member of the third team (Notre Dame's Bonzie Colson) has stated definitively that he's coming back to school.

From the time Bridges became a Spartan, Izzo has gushed over the Flint native's heart and character, saying Bridges is a rare "blue collar superstar". And it allows for some of the soon-to-be veterans, namely Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn Jr., Matt McQuaid and Kenny Goins - three players who Izzo relied heavily on to contribute maybe more than what is expected of them - to play in a role more suited for them, but also be viable assets in a pinch. On the other hand, the 2018 NBA Draft is much thinner than the 2017 Draft and Bridges will play more small forward with Michigan State this upcoming year, the position he will likely find a home at when he is in the NBA a year from now.

But he's no longer in that pool after announcing that he's coming back for a shot at a title with the rest of Izzo's highly touted recruiting class from a year ago. He delivered a combined 40 points and 17 rebounds in NCAA Tournament games against Miami and Kansas. Sources tell SpartanMag.com that Izzo advised Bridges to leave his program as well, but now it appears that Bridges will defy the two closest confidantes of his life in order to embrace Michigan State like no one has ever embraced the 162-year-old land grant university.

Las Vegas is buying Michigan State as a title contender for next season. They are trying to land two more highly touted high school seniors, Brandon McCoy, a 7-foot center from California, and Mark Smith, a 6-4 point guard from IL. Lethal. The team that is returning with the core of Joshua Langford, Cassius Winston and Nick Ward was already going to contend for a Big Ten regular season championship.

Bridges can soar for slams, but he also can hit 3-pointers and score on an array of low-post moves and mid-range turnaround jumpers.
