Johnson, McIlroy betting favorites on 2017 Masters odds

World number one Dustin Johnson admits he will have to be at his very best if he is to win the Masters at Augusta this week.

The 22-year old Englishman, who played for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup last year, attended NU for one quarter in 2013. “Its the first time Ive ever been the favorite.”.

Johnson has been on a tear in 2017, posting consecutive wins at Riviera Los Angeles, Mexico City and the Match Play in Austin.

"If you want to win around here, you re going to have to putt it well", Johnson said.

Tuesday was a gorgeous afternoon at Augusta National and it was highlighted as the world's best golfers hit the course for what will likely be the only full practice day of the week.

The 20-year-old from WA, who also earned a spot in the Open but only if he remained an amateur, said he would stay in the United States for the immediate future and hope for invitations to enough events for him to play well and earn a full-time card. "The last couple years, I've done a little bit better and I feel like I've had a chance".

Johnson is aware that weather could become a factor this week.

Storms are predicted to end overnight before gusting breezes of more than 20 miles per hour (32 kph) and cool temperatures move into the area Thursday and Friday, set to play havoc with the world's greatest shotmakers.

Wednesday: 25C, 100 per cent chance of rain through the day with potential strong storms and 1-2 inches of rain expected, SSE 14 mph winds. "You don't want to feel like you're playing catch up on this course, because you feel like the more you force the issue, the more things can go wrong", McIlroy said. “But for me, I just felt like Ive always learned from them and tried not to do them again.

"I'm trying to hit this low hook around and catch the hill, and trying to get it up on to the green and hit this heroic shot, and it goes in the water and I make a six". He won at Colonial and won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this year.

The triumphs aren't going unnoticed by the world's No. 1 golfer.

“I dont know, ” Johnson said.

Johnson, who was raised in Columbia and is a Gamecocks fan raised in Columbia, briefly paused before congratulating the NCAA football champions.

"He's obviously won big tournaments (the big amateur titles plus the 2016 WA Open) before, so he has the gut to do that and I think he'll succeed". He told me once: ‘I never think about it.
