Scotland and Ireland 'stay alive' in Six Nations

France coach Guy Noves is confident that the future remains bright, despite seeing hopes of the Six Nations title fade with a 19-9 loss away to Ireland.

The Scots' 29-13 success at Murrayfield saw them come from 13-9 down at halftime and end a run of nine successive defeats by Wales, with Vern Cotter's men scoring 20 unanswered points after the break.

Ireland will want to take their form from the match against Italy when they host France in the 2017 Six Nations Championship on Saturday.

Johnny Sexton justified his return to the starting line-up ahead of Paddy Jackson, kicking two penalties and a drop goal with efficiency to give Ireland a 16-6 lead early in the second-half.

Ireland defence coach Andy Farrell tipped Sexton to relish the latest in a long line of physical battles with the French, whose forwards coach Yannick Bru then promptly rejected a repeat of that bullying approach.

We're working very hard on all aspects of our game.

"We're still in the hunt for this Championship", Murray told ITV.

There were victories for Scotland and Ireland as they defeated Wales and France, respectively, in the 2017 Six Nations on Saturday.

Influential: Jonathan Sexton's return from injury was crucial in the win.

"The two sides were under pressure and we were very happy to come out on top".

Conor Murray's try got them back on track and Johnny Sexton guided them home, but while they'll take the win and move on, they will also lament missed opportunities. "We are really trying to stay really focused on the immediate challenge".

In the first match of the double header on Sunday (NZ time), both Scotland and Wales looked intent on playing fast-paced rugby which paid off after Wales scored the opening try to Liam Williams in the 23rd minute following a quick tap from halfback Rhys Webb. The French haven't finished better than fourth in Six Nations play since 2011, the last time they managed to beat Ireland in Dublin.

He said: "There's no-one more frustrated and upset when I'm injured - it was a really hard time after all the work I had done before Christmas". I'm sure Joe will pull some stuff out that we thought was alright and he thought we should do better.
