Governor seeks report on incidents in Tamil Nadu Assembly during trust vote

Leader of Opposition MK Stalin and OPS have demanded Speaker for a secret ballot. Soon after DMK MLAs were forcefully evicted from the House, Congress MLAs staged a walk out.

"The agenda of Speaker (P Dhanapal) is to go ahead with voting and announce that the Chief Minister has succeeded in getting the confidence of the House, in the absence of the DMK members".

"We shall continue our fight as the real AIADMK despite victory of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy, nominee of Sasikala for the post, in the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Saturday", a party leader said.

It is a huge setback for the former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam as he managed to garner 11 votes and lost the battle against the aides of V. K. Sasikala.

The assembly has a total strength of 234, of which one seat is vacant.

The state assembly will hold a special session today to prove who's got the majority in the Assembly of Tamil Nadu.

"Hence, we have urged the Governor that he should not recognise the trust vote (and its outcome)", he said, adding Rao has been requested "to fix another date for the motion of confidence".

The Panneerselvam camp with 11 MLAs said that "the battle is over but the war has just begun".

While watch and ward staff physically carried Legislators, DMK MLAs resisted by whatever means they could. He was arrested from Marina where he was sitting in protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue. "Things would've been different if secret ballot was allowed", he emphasised. Emerging from the House with his shirt torn, Stalin told the waiting media that it was a "black day for democracy". DMK MLA Ku Ka Selvam also sat on the Speaker's chair in protest.

Following the incident, the Speaker adjourned the House. Besides, on winning the vote of confidence, Palaniswami along with AIADMK members paid tribute to J Jayalalithaa at her memorial. Earlier the assembly was adjourned till 1 pm following protest by DMK MLAs, O.Panneerselvam camp MLAs and Congress MLAs demanding secret ballot.
