Arrest stuns Indonesian family of Kim slaying suspect

Malaysian police said on Saturday they had arrested a North Korean man in connection with the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The statement added that the suspect carried a Malaysian i-Kad, which is an identification card given to foreign workers in the country, making him the first North Korean suspect to be arrested in the controversial case.

Kim Jong-nam, 46, was assaulted at the same airport on Monday with what was believed to be a fast-acting poison as he was about to leave on a flight to Macau.

The Inspector-General said the process of the investigation won't be completed until a DNA sample from Kim's family is obtained, saying "everyone has to obey and follow our rules and regulations" and "North Korea is included".

"We will categorically reject the result of the post-mortem conducted unilaterally excluding our attendance", the North Korean ambassador told reporters outside the morgue on Friday.

A vehicle belonging to the North Korean embassy was seen entering the compound of the police headquarters about 4.15pm which intensified speculation that embassy representatives were meeting the fourth suspect detained in its lock-up. The police so far classified Kim's case as "sudden death", not murder.

The big mystery, if he didn't die of natural causes, is why Kim Jong Nam was attacked, and why now.

A grainy image taken from security camera footage, which has been broadcast in South Korea and Malaysia, shows a woman wearing a white T-shirt with the letters "LOL" written on the front.

But a source in Beijing with ties to both the North Korean and Chinese governments told Reuters that North Korea was not involved in his killing, and had no motive. Results had not been released by Thursday evening.

At 2 a.m. on Thursday, Jalaluddin led investigators to his girlfriend, 25-year-old Indonesian Siti Aishah, who was then arrested on suspicion of being involved in Kim's death. Only two escaped, the rest were killed. "Until we find something conclusive we will not be able to release the report", Health Minister S. Subramaniam told AFP.

He sought help, collapsed and died on his way to hospital.

North Korean Ri Jong Chol was arrested Friday in Selangor, Malaysia.

First-born Kim Jong-Nam was once thought to be the natural successor to his father, but on Kim Jong-Il's death in 2011 the succession went to Kim Jong-Un, who was born to the former leader's third wife.

"Police say they are zooming in on the identities of three operatives from North Korea", NST said.

Authorities are investigating whether Indonesian woman Siti Aisyah and another female suspect killed the 46-year-old North Korean exile in a shopping concourse at the worldwide airport.
