Charles Oakley Arrest: Security Chief Fired After Knicks Icon Thrown From Game

"Last year against Charlotte I went to a game and a bunch of security people came up to me right away and told me not to walk around, stay where I am".

That's alarming on several levels.

Oakley has defended himself since the incident, saying he was agitated when security were staring at him and then told him to leave, unprovoked. He cowered. His first instincts were fear and confusion. "He just doesn't want me in the building".

And now by firing his security head, he's found his fall guy. As a result, Dolan has fired MSG's vice president of security, who he says "wasn't working out", and this latest incident was "probably the last straw". Is he battling addiction?

Dolan's flacks left all that up for interpretation. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade posted pictures of Oakley on their Instagram pages, and Clippers coach Doc Rivers said it was hard watching his former Knicks teammate being dragged away and handcuffed during the first quarter of Wednesday's game.

This whole thing is a freakin' mess, and it's not lost on fans and pundits. But there is this: after a very successful run of basketball in the 1990s-in which they went to the playoffs in every season and made the NBA Finals twice-the Knicks have been mostly bad during James Dolan's tenure. It's unbelievable, it's our 70th anniversary, you see players getting honored like Gerald Wilkins, lesser talents than Oakley, all because of Dolan's ego. "I dunno what really happened".

The Knicks did not respond to a request for that video.

New York Knicks fans found ammunition to show their displeasure with the dysfunctional National Basketball Association team, as the Madison Square Garden crowd saluted the banished Charles Oakley during Friday's loss to the Denver Nuggets. He said he had a few drinks earlier but denies drinking at the arena.

NY doesn't know how to play with a lead, which coincides with the losing culture created by the front office. He said they all lend their support. Since then, the owner and player have always been at odds, with Oakley's special brand of candor rankling Dolan's soft feathers and the Knicks effectively wiping the former All-Star from the franchise's lengthy history. During his tenure, the Knicks' notable achievements include being the final resting place for Tracy McGrady and Steve Francis's careers, letting Eddy Curry and Allan Houston rob them of millions of dollars, and convincing Carmelo Anthony to waste his best years on them.
