Ford Expedition adopts the family face

2018 Ford Expedition Bigger Aluminumier EcoBoostier

"When Expedition was introduced 20 years ago, it set the standard for active families who simply needed a big and strong SUV to take them places".

Perhaps Ford bet that Dak Prescott would get the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, as it chose to unveil the new, aluminum-bodied 2018 Expedition in Dallas at the Cowboys' new headquarters and training facility, a couple of days ahead of its official premiere at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show.

The new Expedition features a roomier interior to match the fresh sheet metal. And between the adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, a lane-keeping system, and blind-spot awareness function, the Expedition should give moms the peace of mind to take their eyes off the road long enough to yell at the seven kids packed into the vehicle. That means you don't have to remove the child safety seat from the second row to pack the tweens in the back, though Ford is encouraging adults back there too with more legroom and reclining seats.

The 2018 Ford Expedition has been made bigger not just in appearance but also in terms of making its passengers more comfortable.

"Thanks to the use of advanced materials, the all-new Expedition saves up to 300 pounds, and the team reinvested that weight savings everywhere it counts to give customers more technology and convenience features than ever before".

Really, the 2018 Ford Expedition looks a bit like a blending of the exterior styling of the current Ford Explorer and the current Ford F150.

Also on the equipment list are active park assist, 360-degree-view backup camera, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance and blindspot detection. Ford expects the Expedition to have the best towing capability in its class, which makes sense considering a full 15 percent of its buyers "tow things weekly or monthly", but we have no hard numbers on that yet either. Just like Ford F-150, the engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Expedition grows four inches in length with more three inches in the wheelbase. There is also the extended Expedition Max, which is about 8 inches longer.

The all-new Expedition is available in XLT, Limited and Platinum series. To maximize fuel economy (no EPA ratings have been released as of yet), the V-6 includes a stop/start system as standard. It also capable of Wifi hotspotting for as many as 10 devices as far as 50 feet away from the vehicle. The second and third rows will fold flat at the push of a button to reveal a cavernous cargo location. The 2018 Expedition will be wildly centered in the middle of the market, with a bigger body and innovative on-board system.

Ford's strategy has been twofold: build the large vehicles using more lightweight aluminum; and develop more fuel-efficient engines, such as turbocharged six-cylinder powerplants than mimic V8s for the trucks and gas-electric hybrids for the Mustang, to enhance acceleration (electric motors provide a lot of pop off the line).
