Lynch, Dawkins, Boselli finish inside top 10 in Hall voting

There's plenty of arguments to be made of why Terrell Owens shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame due to his attitude on and off the field.

"You guys have meant so much to me and my family and my career".

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017 was announced this evening, and though no Colts players made it (none were even finalists), here's the newest members of the Hall of Fame: LaDainian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner, Terrell Davis, Jason Taylor, Morten Anderson, Jerry Jones, and Kenny Easley. But neither made it. Making the Hall of Fame is hard for safeties - there are only seven true ones in Canton.

In addition to the modern-era finalists, there also was one senior finalist in Easley, who was a safety for the Seattle Seahawks in the 1980s, and two contributor finalists in Jones, who owns the Dallas Cowboys, and former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

In his first year of eligibility, former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins did not receive enough votes to be elected into the NFL Hall of Fame. By the time he retired after a 15-year career, he had 139 1/2 career sacks, which at the time ranked sixth in league history, and was named the NFL defensive player of the year in 2006.

Owens was a five-time first-team All Pro and one of the most dynamic playmakers the game has ever seen. He was an All-Decade selection for the 2000s.

Owens ranks second in National Football League history in yards receiving (15,934), fifth in total touchdowns (156) and eighth in receptions (1,078).

Owens will assuredly be a candidate again next year.

Against the suggestion of medical staff, Owens played in the Super Bowl despite still being in recovery from a severely sprained ankle and fractured fibula. He caught nine passes for 122 yards in the Eagles' 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.

While Davis says both players clearly should be in, Gero and Hager couldn't help but reminisce about that 2004 Eagles season, saying they'd welcome either player back to the team right now. He topped 1,500 yards in each of the final three of those seasons, including a 2,008-yard season in 1998.

Clemson has never had a player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

John Lynch and Brian Dawkins, were not selected from the list of finalists.

A polarizing figure in the locker room during his playing days, Owens ended his career as one of the best receivers in the game, at least from a statistical standpoint. After spending eight seasons as a FOX television analyst for National Football League games, Lynch was hired this week as 49ers general manager.

The Jaguars selected Boselli with second overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft.

Warner was selected to four Pro Bowls in his career, and was the NFL's leading passer in 2001.
